Mayor Announces Haitian Relief Fund
West Orange Mayor, John McKeon has launched a relief fund for the people of Haiti. Learn about the fund and see how you can help.
Dear Citizen,
Haiti has faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion; an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced. The magnitude 7.0 earthquake, and several very strong aftershocks, struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince.
The devastating earthquake has left an estimated 3 million people in immediate need of emergency aid.
President Obama promised that the United States would help in any way it could in the worldwide effort to deal with what he called a “cruel and incomprehensible tragedy”.
Haitians are our neighbors in the Americas and here at home. We must help them in their time of need. Many people in town have already reached out to see what they can do right now.
West Orange is very much aware that many members of our community are being affected by the disaster in Haiti. While our schools are providing opportunities for students to seek assistance from counselors, the Township has set up a Haitian Relief Fund, where residents can donate money to help us rush relief to survivors.
We are asking those interested to send donations payable to:
Township of West Orange
Mayor’s Office
66 Main Street
West Orange, NJ 07052
Haiti needs our prayers and support. Thank you.
John F. McKeon
