Hazel Avenue School Tricky Tray

Hazel Avenue School will be having their annual Tricky Tray at Liberty Middle School (Yes, Liberty Middle School).

Friday May 21, 2010
Doors open at 7pm
$5 Entry Charge

Complimentary coffee and desserts, music and children’s activities. Prizes include gift certificates to local businesses, Mets tickets, SHU basketball tickets, Cape Cod vacation package and Disney’s Mary Poppins on Broadway package. Must be present to win.

For anyone who doesn’t know, a Tricky Tray is: “a fund raising event for a church, school or other organization where guests buy tickets, then place them in a container next to the item they would like to win. Items can be a single item or a group of items based on a theme. Once everyone has had the opportunity to place his or her tickets in the container, the drawing for the prizes begins. Joint BOE & Township Council Meeting

A joint meeting of the West Orange Board of Education and the West Orange Township Council will be held to discuss the failed school budget.

If necessary the joint meeting will be continued on May 18 and May 19 also at 6:30 at the High School.

Essex County Computer & Electronics Recycling Day

The Essex County Computer & Electronics Recycling Day is free to all Essex County residents. Drop off: Computers, monitors, printers, fax machines, scanners, telecom equipment, speakers, televisions, keyboards, main frames, VCRs, stereos, DVD Players, toasters, irons and cell phones.

Hazel Garden Plant Swap

Join the Hazel PTA for their First Spring Plant Swap

May 15, 2-4 pm
The Rainbow Garden @ Hazel School, 45 Hazel Avenue

Do you need to divide your perennials? Would you like a new plant for your planter, patio or yard? Bring a plant, take a plant. Bring more, take more. Please bring plants in containers that you are willing to part with. All proceeds will help maintain the Outdoor Classroom, garden and provide project materials for Hazel students. Afternoon refreshments will be served. Baked goods will be sold by 5th grade students.

Bicycle Rodeo

The West Orange Police Department, Community Services Unit and the West Orange Elks Lodge #1590, invites all West Orange children ages 8 – 14 years of age to a Bicycle Rodeo on Saturday, May 15th, at the Washington Street School, 289 Main Street. (more…)

West Orange Eco-Energy Fair to Bring ‘Green’ Community Together

The green event will highlight the innovative steps West Orange is taking to expand its environmental and energy initiatives, and provides a place for members of the community to learn more about the green revolution.

Valley Clean Up Day A Success

On Saturday, April 17, we had a great turnout of more than 20 students from Hazel Avenue School and 5 students from Seton Hall Prep as well as parents and West Orange police officers. We spent the morning planting flowers, picking up garbage, and cleaning up our neighborhood. A huge thank you to everyone who participated especially the West Orange Police Department, Nick Salese, Clean Communities Coordinator for the Township and Rose De Sena, Director of the Neighborhood Preservation program for their support and participation on the Clean Up event.

“Council Candidates Night” A Great Success

Monday night’s meeting was a great success. The candidates answered questions and presented their ideas to an attentive audience of over 100 people. Thank you to the candidates and attendees for your participation.
