Valley Arts District Public Art Project

Saturday, May 22
Dedication at 2:00 pm

A public art project called the Road Tattoo by Steed Taylor will be installed on Saturday. It will be the largest public artwork ever produced for the Valley Arts District (175′ x 20′) and it will be implemented in just one day on the road of Freeman Street between Scotland Road and Jefferson Street in Orange. The 10-block Valley Arts District is located in the old industrial core of the Valley neighborhood on the Orange/West Orange border.

“The road tattoos of Steed Taylor are evanescent commemorative communal and interactive installations distinguished by history and ritual. Personalized markings by individuals bound through specific commonalities, the results are ultimately works heavily invested with emotion, and made more so by the processes by which these works are sited as public art works.” Koan Jeff Baysa, Chinese Biennial 2008 Beijing curator.
